Speech Disorders We Treat
Articulation
Our pediatric therapists use a variety of methods to treat articulation disorders including auditory discrimination exercises, tongue and lip placement activities, drill-based practice tasks, and visual feedback techniques. Through these activities, the therapist helps the child to recognize the differences between various sounds and then make those sounds correctly when forming words and sentences.
Our therapists may also provide coaching on how best to move their lips and tongue in order to produce clearer speech. With consistent work, our pediatric speech therapists can help your child learn how to properly articulate their thoughts, allowing them to communicate effectively with others.
Fluency
Our Fluency treatment program includes stuttering modification, fluency shaping, breathing exercises, and relaxation strategies that aid in improving the confidence and communication abilities of those they work with. Our therapists often provide feedback on how the child is speaking and take note of any changes in their speech patterns or behaviors.
Through the use of verbal cueing, visual cues, and other helpful tactics, we are able to successfully assess the child’s needs and tailor treatment plans specifically for them. As a result, your child will develop better control over their stutter or dysfluency, gain a sense of self-confidence as well as improve communication skills.
Phonology
We offer a wide variety of treatment options for children with phonology disorders. Our speech-language pathologists use evidence-based practice to focus on the individual needs of each child, drawing from a range of strategies including articulation therapy, language stimulation, direct instruction, and parent/caregiver involvement.
We also utilize various tools such as picture boards, visual aids and computer software programs to help teach correct production of sounds. Our goal is to help children develop functional communication skills that will last them throughout their lives.
Receptive and Expressive Language Skills
We offer both receptive and expressive language skills to help your child better understand and communicate with their peers. For example, we emphasize teaching children basic vocabulary words, understanding directions, following simple instructions, learning new concepts, forming sentences, listening to stories, and expressing themselves in a clear manner.
We also incorporate activities such as storytelling and singing songs into our lessons to foster their creativity and engagement. By teaching receptive and expressive language skills at our preschool, we are helping to create an environment where every child can confidently express themselves and learn in a safe space.
